For this film we have chosen for a low-polygon graphical look. So the best thing to establish the overall vibe of the film, was to create some illustrator art boards defining this style of non-curved shapes. The initial moodboards will need to be translated into a 3d world, and the results of these tests will follow soon. Here a small selection of the boards without revealing to much ofcoarse.

The character designs as we pitched them basicly remained unaltered for the film.
The concept for the styling of the main character was inspired by the look of our shadow in the califorian sun. The deformed proportions look somewhat cartoon-esque, with a tiny head on this stretched body and those big hands. Which we think works really awesome and exactly what we were looking for.
We wanted the main character to be really recognizable and have his personal style in clothing. The design and colors are inspired by old russian cosmonaut suits. Look at those orange pants, who doesn’t want one of those!

Pivot is a short animationfilm produced for the KORT! 2009 project.
Synopsis: When a man is witness to a murder and takes pictures of the killer, he has to run for his life. During the chase he is able to turn the tables and the prey becomes the hunter. All resulting in an unfortunate ending.
The film is designed and animated by Kevin Megens, Floris Vos, Arno de Grijs, Andre Bergs.
Music and sound design by Alex Debicki.
The script was written by Jan Eduards.
The film is produced by il Luster Productions.
Financed and commisioned by NPS KORT! Filmfonds, Mediafonds, CoBo
Pivot will have it’s premiere on the Nederlands Film Festival in september 2009.

Dear friends, family, and animation lovers, Finally it’s here!
Pivot, the first NPS Kort! animation is in competition for the Golden Calf (the Dutch oscar)
During the Dutch Film Festival the short animationfilm ‘Pivot’, created by André Bergs, Arno de Grijs, Floris Vos, Kevin Megens and Alex Debicki will be premiered.
During this energetic five minutes lasting film, the main character Tim finds himself in an unfortunate situation where he has to run for his life. For the style of the film an unorthodox 3D style was chosen, and together with the radical sound-design from Alex Debicki Pivot is an intense experience.
The film is the first animation film ever created in the series NPS Kort! and is produced by il Luster productions. It’s selected to compete for the Golden Calf in the category ‘ Best short film’. A half year ago the makers started working on the concept with a small team and now it’s printed on film. Which is real quick for animation standards.
Pivot premieres 28th of september on the Dutch Film Festival
